Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes is one of the two forms of Diabetes. Type 2 Diabetes is a life-long (chronic) disease in which the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas don’t produce enough insulin, or the cells in the body don’t react to Insulin that well or not at all. Insulin is needed by the cells to take up glucose from the blood, which they need to function properly. If the cells don’t react to insulin, they don’t take up glucose, leading to high blood sugar levels and and symptoms of diabetes such as a frequent need to pee, being extremely thirsty and hungry, feeling fatigued, experiencing vision changes and weight loss. Diabetes can lead to long-term damage of the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidney and nerves, which is why it’s important that it’s monitored and managed well.

Type 2 Diabetes is the more common form of Diabetes, and often starts in adulthood. Type 2 Diabetes can be managed through a healthy diet, an active lifestyle, maintaining a healthy weight, as well as diabetes medications or insulin.
