The metabolic syndrome, also called Syndrome X, insulin resistance syndrome or dysmetabolic syndrome, is a combination of diabetes, high blood pressure (hypertension) and obesity that increase your chance to develop heart disease, stokes and other cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular diseases. The exact cause for metabolic syndrome is not known, however it’s assumed to be connected to insulin resistance. As there are no immediate symptoms, make sure to check in regularly with your healthcare provider to monitor your risk of developing metabolic syndrome.
