Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S) is a hormone that is produced in the adrenal glands and belongs to the group of androgens. More specifically, DHEA-S is considered a pro-androgen, which means that it needs an enzyme to convert it into a bioactive androgen.
